Key Capability : Controlled testing of lunar-surface technologies interacting with electrostatically charged regolith under vacuum.

Our Vacuum Moon Environment Simulator reproduces the electrostatic charging of lunar regolith under vacuum conditions representative of the lunar surface. The system provides a controlled and repeatable environment for investigating the interaction between charged regolith and lunar-surface technologies. The vacuum chamber is approximately 20 cm in diameter and 40 cm in height. Lunar regolith simulant placed inside the chamber is negatively charged through electron-beam irradiation. The electron-beam system provides energies ranging from 200 eV to 20 keV and a maximum beam current of 1 mA, enabling a range of lunar-surface charging conditions to be simulated. Following irradiation, test articles are brought into contact with the charged simulant to evaluate their electrical and electrostatic responses. The facility supports experimental assessment of surface charging, charge transfer, electrostatic mitigation, and electrical energy harvesting under controlled vacuum conditions.
